Job Position: Financial Accountant
Job Location: Wuye, Abuja (FCT)
Employment Type: Full-time
Reports to: Managing Director
Level: Mid-Level (Experienced Professional)
Role Summary
- The Mid-Level Accountant will be responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, supporting statutory and regulatory compliance, and contributing to effective financial management within the organization.
- The role requires a proactive professional who is current with modern accounting standards, tax regulations, and financial management practices, particularly within the real estate sector.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Management:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including ledgers, journals, and reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
- Manage cash flow, expense tracking, budgeting, and cost control.
- Monitor project-based accounting for real estate developments, sales, and rentals.
- Ensure proper documentation and accounting for property transactions, commissions, and related expenses.
Statutory & Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure full compliance with statutory obligations, including tax filings and remittances (PAYE, WHT, VAT, CIT, etc.).
- Liaise with tax authorities, auditors, and regulatory bodies as required.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure timely resolution of audit queries.
- Keep the organization up to date with changes in financial regulations, tax laws, and accounting standards.
Financial Controls & Process Improvement:
- Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Review financial processes and recommend improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, financial procedures, and best practices.
- Support the development and enforcement of financial policies and controls.
Reporting & Decision Support:
- Provide financial insights and analysis to support management decision-making.
- Assist with financial forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
- Prepare reports required for management, investors, and other stakeholders.
Systems & Tools:
- Use accounting software and ERP systems efficiently (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho, or similar).
- Maintain accurate financial data and documentation using digital tools and spreadsheets.
- Stay current with evolving accounting technologies and reporting tools.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Accuracy and timeliness of financial reports
- Compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements
- Effectiveness of internal controls
- Budget adherence and cost management
- Audit outcomes and issue resolution
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3 - 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within real estate, construction, or a related industry.
- Professional certification (ICAN, ACCA, or equivalent) is highly desirable or in progress.
Required Skills & Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
- Sound understanding of Nigerian statutory and tax compliance requirements.
- Proven experience in financial management and reporting.
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience in real estate sales, leasing, or project accounting
- Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines
- Up-to-date knowledge of current accounting and tax developments.
