About the Program


  • Airtel Africa Foundation (the “Foundation”) is the philanthropic arm of Airtel Africa plc, a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, with a presence in 14 countries in Africa. Our mission is to empower Africa through financial inclusion, education, environmental protection and digital inclusion.  
  • The foundation launched the “Airtel Africa Tech Fellowship” program to support young Africans from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue higher education in STEM, as part of the Foundation’s broader goal of increasing the proportion of African youth with advanced Tech skills and shaping the next generation of tech leaders from the continent. 
  • The Foundation is partnering with selected Universities to support meritorious African students who secure admission for a tech-related undergraduate program.

The program will be open to students of the following seven public universities in Nigeria:

  • University of Lagos (UNILAG)
  • University of Nigeria (UNN)
  • Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU)
  • University of Benin (UNIBEN)
  • Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU)
  • University of Ilorin (UNILORIN)
  • Tai Solarin University of Education (TASEUD)

Fellowship Reach

  • In Nigeria, the fellowship will support at least 100 students per year.

Fellowship Coverage

  • Fellowships are for the full duration of the Bachelor of Tech, Science and Engineering programs for 4- 5 years

Eligibility Criteria
The eligibility criteria for this Fellowship are as follows:

  • The Fellowship will only apply to students admitted into any one of the 7 participating public universities.
  • The Foundation will consider gender diversity as part of the selection criteria.  
  • The candidate shall not be a recipient of any other fellowship/scholarship/grants for the same purposes as being supported by Airtel Africa Foundation.
  • Only new entrants shall be eligible. (100 level)
  • The Candidate must demonstrate financial need to be eligible for the program
  • Scored a minimum of 230 in JAMB
  • Possess 5 credits, including English and mathematics, in one sitting.
  • Applicants must have JAMB results and an admission letter, a School ID card & WAEC certificate/ result to be shortlisted
